Tours: Durham

Caroline Henderson

Intro: Meet Caroline. She got her start with Taste Carolina the best way we can think of: by joining a tour as one of our guests! What began as a Mother’s Day outing with her mom quickly turned into something more when, by the third stop, the group felt like a table full of old friends. She reached out the very next day to ask about becoming a tour guide, and the rest is history! She loves to recreate the same feeling of connection that she experienced on her first tour. Originally from West Texas, Caroline has called Durham home since 2018. Caroline teaches in the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science at UNC Chapel Hill, helping to train future diagnostic testing professionals. Feel free to ask her more about this... maybe between tastings... and especially if you have a stomach for that sort of thing. Caroline also likes to keep busy by singing in the Duke Chapel Choir, playing classical guitar, and working toward her goal of completing the Tarheel 10 Miler every year that she is a faculty member at UNC. She's all about music, food, running, and science. And coffee - as you can see - plenty of coffee.

About me: A few things you might learn about Caroline along the way. 1) Tex Mex is #1 in her heart. Give her a basket of chips and salsa, a plate full of chile rellenos, and a sopaipilla with honey for dessert, and she is a happy gal. 2) amin Nosrat (the author of Salt Fat Acid Heat) is her favorite foodie and top choice for “celebrity to share a meal with.” 3) Her earliest memories are of baking with her mother and sisters, including entering their creations into their local county fair contests. She won best in show for her yule log cake in 6th grade.
